Vanessa Bryant Asks Court To Cancel Her Mother Sofia Laine's ‘Morally Deficient’ lawsuit
After Kobe’s death, mother and daughter have become estranged due to Sofia Laine’s financial demands. Vanessa Bryant has been through a lot over the past year and now she’s asking a judge to throw out her estranged mother’s lawsuit demanding a lifetime of financial support. Well in the tough times families are supposed to come together, but in case of this mother daughter duo, its clearly crumbling. We dont know if the situation could be classified as Greed, Over expectation or non aligned priorities but according to TMZ Sports, Vanessa Bryant is pleading the law to Cancel her mother Sofia Laine. In new docs, Vanessa points to a legal fight Sofia was having against her ex-husband in 2004 and 2008 over spousal support. Sofia's ex-husband claimed he should not have to pay her because she was being supported by Kobe and Vanessa. Sofia fired back that her daughter and son-in-law had no obligation to support her, and whatever they gave her was simply out of the goodness of their hearts. And, Vanessa has other reasons why she wants the lawsuit dismissed. Among them ... Sofia argues Kobe made an oral promise to "take care of her financially." Vanessa's legal team says even if Kobe said that, it's too vague to be enforced. Now in an effort to get the full insight into how the duo reached this hopeless place, lets dig deeper. So according to Laine, Kobe Bryant had verbally promised to support her financially before his death in 2020. Obviously in one to one discussion Vanessa would have declined to respect Kobe's verbal promise, that does not have proof anyway leading the mother to get help from the legal system. Laine filed a suit suing her daughter with the argument that she deserves $5 million in back pay for being a "longtime personal assistant" to Vanessa and nanny for the grandchildren. Ms Laine's legal action attracted a swift and significant backlash, not least for coming just 11 months after the death of Bryant's husband and teenage daughter Gianna in a helicopter crash. According to BBC, One well-known journalist called the lawsuit "repulsive", for example, in a tweet that at the time of writing has been "liked" more than 28,000 times. Vanessa has responded to the situation by releasing a statement, denying her mother's claims that she was a nanny and assistant, and instead accused her of attempting to "extort a financial windfall" from her. "This lawsuit is frivolous, disgraceful, and unimaginably hurtful," she added. Definitely money has created a big wall between a mother and her daughter, in many ways we can say its setting the wrong example for people who look up to them, but again a bigger question is, should grandparents be paid for babysitting?
