A former camera assistant claims that working for Ellen DeGeneres is like being in the film, the Devil wears Prada where the leading lady played by Meryl Street is cruel to her assistant.
Making it through the year was considered to be a “badge of honour” just like in the movie.
Speaking anonymously with the Australian radio show “Stav, Abby & Matt” on B105, the woman said the conditions were so bad that even drinking water on hot days was not permitted despite being expected to work 10 hour shifts.
"It's about certain basic rights," she told the radio show. "Like you're asking to be paid for your overtime or you're asking for water on a hot day on a hot set, and you're being told things like: 'If you don't like it here, there's the door.'"
Putting on your resume that you have worked for Ellen was seen to be an achievement according to the former camera assistant;
You're constantly told there's a line out the door for your job and if you don't like it here, you can leave."
Self-absorbed Ellen DeGeneres has such a big ego that she would refuse to talk to others, the former camera assistant said;
"Most people are told when Ellen enters the room you and your entire crew need to leave," "Sometimes her bodyguards come forward first and you kind of see them and you know to leave and that's it."
Celebrities such as Aston Kutcher, Actor Kevin Hart and Katy Perry have defended her claiming she is nice. When asked about these claims from celebrities, the former camera assistant responded;
"People like Ashton Kutcher and Katy Perry have no idea what it's like to be an Ellen staffer, and it's really unfair that they say things like 'she treated me with respect.' I was not treated in any way similar to how Ashton Kutcher was treated on this show."
62 year old Ellen DeGeneres who ends the show by reminding audience to remember to be kind to each other has clearly lost her credibility and yet the show hasn’t formally announced that she will be replaced.
It is reported that the show is being investigated by Warner Bros, it's distributor following allegations of racial discrimination, bullying and sexual misconduct. However the show's decision not to replace her despite the plethora of complaints by staff is starting to raise some concerns.
