Tiktok users were not very happy, in fact they were outraged by Charli D'Amelio and it resulted in around million followers who decided to unfollow the tiktok sensation. Compared to her total following of around 98 million on Tiktok, a million followers is not so significant but she must be worried if this becomes a trend.
She is also concerned about mean and abusive comments and speaking of this she broke down on an Instagram live.
What happened?
But what is the outrage about? Well some of the followers are not so happy over Charli’s behavior. People raised such concern after watching a youtube video posted on Charli’s family channel on 16 November 2020, in which some characterized her behavior as "rude," "entitled," and "ungrateful."
Things went wrong when she was talking to her dinner guest James Charles in the video; D'Amelio was seen complaining about not hitting 100 million followers on TikTok within a year. Her sister Dixie also received criticism on social media and in YouTube comments for acting disgusted at a meal cooked by a private chef.
Charli tearfully apologises on Instagram live
She came live on Instagram to address the issue and clarify that it was just one huge misunderstanding and she never meant to come across as arrogant.
She tried to convince the fans that she was genuinely sorry, and "it wasn't something where I truly meant to be hurtful or truly meant to put anyone down."
Charli even assured her fans she will refrain from being sarcastic if it comes across as arrogance. D'Amelio started to cry when talking about some of the hateful comments and "messed-up stuff" she's received on social media, including some violent and abusive statements.
"Blatantly disrespecting the fact that I'm still a human being is not OK at all," she said, adding that she wasn't sure she wanted to be on the internet anymore.
"If this is the community that I'm in, and the community that I've put myself, I don't know if I want to do that anymore," she said.
Fans and friends support Charli
A lot of fans in the live session supported Charli and asked her to stay strong.
Charles, who was in the YouTube video, also defended his friend when fans started tagging him in comments.
"Charli is soooo grateful for everyone that supports her," he wrote on TikTok. "I don't like these comments dragging her."
Who to blame?
It seems Charli is trying to please everyone and when everyone counts to be close to 100 millions obviously you will end up offending some.
