TikTok star Quenlin Blackwell and Diplo have been raising eyebrows about their 22 year age gap. Here is all you need to know about what happened.
Last week on 21 October, 19 year old Quenlin Blackwell posted a video where she answered questions. Someone had asked if neighbours ever complained since her videos were too noisy.
She shocked everyone by saying;
"I live with Diplo right now, and he fully supports my endeavors."
She walked into another room to ask him;
"Why do I live with you?" to which the music producer said), "I have no other friends. It's the truth."
Fans were outranged at the age difference, Diplo who is 41 was living with a 19 year old.
Blackwell responded to the controversy with a video mocking articles about their relationship. On 25th October she wrote;
“I’m an adult. I’m not being groomed. Platonic relationships exist. I’ve been living here over a year…I’d rather break both of my legs and before forced to walk than pursue Diplo romantically and he’d rather choke. He’s barley in LA bc he’s so busy."
"Diplo has given me the opportunity and security to create. Diplo and his team are my mentors in LA and they are my safety net." She continued.
"Diplo and his team have saved me numerous times from the weirdos in La. My parents trust him. I trust him. Y’all are making me feel icky. Diplo is my LA dad..nothing more."
Fans responded with their continued concern writing;
What we're saying is that he's a known creep and this arrangement is inappropriate on his part,' one user wrote.
'I hope you understand that and realize it's not you who's being criticized here.'
Another user wrote:
'We're all glad you're safe but you can't deny he has a past of grooming young black girls and predatory behaviour towards young girls it's just very concerning.'
Diplo has caught controversy over the years for liking and retweeting underage girls twerking as part of his 'express yourself' hashtag. He has also been known for his violent tendencies. According to his former girlfriend MIA he smashed up her hotel room and broke all the furniture because he was jealous she got signed up by a major label.
Diplo himself tweeted on 26 October.. to say;
"OK so I rent one of my properties to @quenblackwell," Diplo tweeted. "And yes I use the studio that is in that building. Her social media is sarcastic and chaotic and I can see you can get a twisted idea but there is nothing but a friendship between us."
Someone asked him on Twitter:
"What do you have in common with a 19-year-old that would warrant a friendship, quick." Diplo responded: "We made music together."
