Most people that watch the real housewives can’t help but feel envious of the cast. The women are usually beautiful and live such glamourous lives that pretty much anyone would want a bit of their life minus the drama.
Well in the case of Jen Shah, its better you don’t have her life at all after the shocking discovery that she has been exploiting the vulnerable.
The star of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City alongside her assistant Stuart Smith have been arrested for conspiracy to commit fraud in connection with telemarketing, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
According to NBC, Manhattan US Attorney Audrey Strauss gave the following statement.
“Jennifer Shah, who portrays herself as a wealthy and successful businessperson on ‘reality’ television, and Stuart Smith, who is portrayed as Shah’s ‘first assistant,’ allegedly generated and sold ‘lead lists’ of innocent individuals for other members of their scheme to repeatedly scam.
In actual reality and as alleged, the so-called business opportunities pushed on the victims by Shah, Smith, and their co-conspirators were just fraudulent schemes, motivated by greed, to steal victims’ money,”
The telemarketing scam is thought to have been ongoing for at least 9 years and has claimed “hundreds” of victim and often targetted “vulnerable, often elderly, working-class people.”
According to Page 6;
“They allegedly ripped off hundreds of victims across the country, many of whom were over 55, encouraging them to invest in dubious online projects and selling bogus business services from 2012 to as recently as this month, according to an indictment.”
“They allegedly hawked tax preparation, coaching sessions and website design services — although many of their targets were elderly and did not own a computer.”
They even went as far as sharing the names with co-conspirators after exploiting them and even took a cut.
47 year old Shah, and her assistant Stuart Smith, 43, are expected to appear Tuesday afternoon before US District Judge Dustin Pead and could face up to 30 years in prison on the top count, court papers say.
This if true is truly shocking, how do people sleep at night.
