Chadwick Boseman lost the Best Actor Award at the Oscars last weekend and sexiest man Alive Michael B Jordan has finally spoken out about how he really feels.
For those that watched Black Panther which should be pretty much everyone would know that the two starred alongside each other and quickly became close on set. Sadly Chadwick Boseman passed away in August 2020 aged 43 after battling with cancer but certainly left behind a legacy.
While promoting his new series, Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, Michael talked about the awards on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show
“I think a part of everybody had a little bit of that feeling watching it. But you know, this is how I honestly and really truly feel about it, there’s no award that can validate his legacy,” Michael said.
“There’s no win that can take anything away from the lives around the world that he impacted, his family, myself included, so you gotta look at the things that we can control and the gifts and the blessings that he left us,” he added. “And that’s this incredible body of work and what he represents for as a person.”
Boseman went on to add that he didn’t watch Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom so that he could savour the moment. This was the last film with Boseman before he passed away.
“In hindsight that would be his last performance that people had an opportunity to actually see, to be able to watch,” boseman said. “So you want to kind of savor that moment. Like one of your favorite shows, you don’t want to watch the last episode, you just want to kinda just like, leave it there and in my own time I watched it.”
Michael added, “It was an incredible performance man. You can see it, him giving everything he had, obviously he knew something that nobody else did. But, but truly powerful, truly incredible, legendary, yeah.”
The Best Actor 2021 Academy Award was instead won by Anthony Hopkins for his work in The Father. While many in Hollywood thought Chadwick Boseman losing and Hopkins winning was a snub, his family remained supportive.
Speaking to TMZ, Chadwick’s brother said;
“I’m sure [Anthony] would [wish him the best] if Chad won,” Derrick said. He added that “the family isn’t upset or agitated” because “every nominated actor was excellent and deserving of the award.”
Chadwick Boseman’s memory will no doubt live on with or without an award.
