It seems like Bachelor couple Matt James and Racheal Kirkconnell may be giving it another go.
Page Six reported on Wednesday May 5th that the 29 yeat old bachelor alum reunited with the winner of Season 25. A source told the outlet;
“They are back together, but Matt is hesitant to publicly and outrightly confirm it right now because it’s still fresh and they still have issues to work through.”
“Rachael already faced scrutiny for her past, and now all eyes have shifted to Matt, so he’s feeling pressure to set a good example for other black men.
He’s aware that people are not going to be happy that he jumped back into a relationship with Rachael so soon. So while he is happy to have her in his life again, he is not ready to scream it from the rooftops yet.”
In a WSJ Magazine profile published the same day Rachel confirmed that the two were together. Matt’s version was more that “they were trying to make it work.”
He also said that he is going to, “have critical conversations about being in this relationship and what I need in a partner — especially if that woman isn’t black — to understand what comes with me and my life and being black.”
“It’s on people who care about being allies to do the work to be truly antiracist. And I think it’s unfair to leave people without the ability to unlearn and be better,” he added.
For those who didn’t know Matt gave his final rose to Rachel though they did not get engaged at the end of the season, after the filming ended, photos surfaced showing she had attended a plantation party and also liked racially insensitive posts on social media. It blew up after the host Chris Harrison defended Rachael dismissing that racism was an issue.
He then later stepped back as host for rest of season .
While being interviewed on the After the Final Rose special, Matt revealed that when the photos of Rachael surfaced, he stood by her side at first and “dismissed” the speculation but he couldn’t continue their relationship after Rachael expressed that she didn’t understand why people were offended by the images.
“You hear things that are heartbreaking and you just pray they’re not true,”Matt said on the show.
“When you find out that they are, it just makes you question everything. As someone who grew up in the South, it takes me to a place I often try not to think about. When she spoke out publicly and acknowledged that she would do better and she apologized, was when I was finally able to see where I was at. I wasn’t okay. It was in that moment and the conversation that I had when I realized Rachael might not understand what it means to be Black in America.”
Matt then revealed that he broke up with Rachael.
“As Rachael acknowledged in her apology, there’s a lot of work that needs to be done,” he said. “I have to take a step back and allow her to put in that work. I’m looking forward to seeing her put in that work. We’re not together,” he said at the time.
Seems like he feels like she has put in the work to allow her back in his life but was it the right decision is the question.
