Bieber fans will be disappointed to learn that Bieber came on stage unprepared forgetting his lyrics to not only the 2015 hit song, ‘Sorry’ but also the Love Yourself Number during this live NYE performance for T-Mobile.
The 26-year-old singer was performing his 2015 hit song Sorry to celebrate the end of 2020 and the start of 2021 on top of the Beverly Hilton hotel when he stumbled over the lyrics and confessed, 'I forget the words.'
He appeared slightly frazzled and left a bit tongue tied though he tried to keep going. He uttered out the lyrics, 'You gotta go and get angry at all of my,' before forgetting the last word 'honesty.'
He tried to move forward and got the second verse, 'You know I try but I don't do too,” but then realised it was a lyric flop. He also missed a few words from the Love Yourself number.
His lengthy set and rustiness from not having toured for a long time may have been the cause. Either that or he has been otherwise occupied. I mean let’s face it with having to defend wife Hailey and the whole Selena Gomez, Hailey Bieber situation things haven’t been too easy for him.
He went on to later tweet, "I forgot the words" only @justinbieber #Sorry #BieberNYE." But remained optimistic about the overall performance calling it an ‘unbelievable night’.
'Couldn't be more honored to stand beside so many incredible people tonight thank you to all of you who put on this incredible show tonight my heart is full of hope for 2021.' He said.
His doting wife, 24 year old Hailey Bieber was behind him and reposted a photo with the caption, 'so proud of you :).'
Of course this isn’t the first time he has forgotten the lyrics to his own songs, in 2017, he was caught on camera forgetting the original Spanish lyrics to his hit song Despacito and just making up noises to fill in instead.
He was at 1OAK night club in New York on Tuesday 23 May 2017 to perform his No1 track, when the blip happened. Instead of admitting he had forgotten the lyrics, he spoke sang some made up phrases.
"I don't know the words so I say burrito, I don't know the words so I say Dorito, I don't know the words so I say puerquito [pork]," he said.
The Chainsmokers, who were also on stage at the time, looked at each other and laughed in what seemed embarrassment as Bieber made what appeared to some as a loud animal noise into the mic.
"Zubba-zubba-zubba-zubba-zubba-zubba-zub-burrito, I ate a burrito, I just want some puerquito," he yelled, while a woman behind the camera could be heard exclaiming: "My god!"
Clearly forgetting his lyrics isn’t anything new for Bieber but perhaps a bit more effort at preparing for his NYE concert would have been appreciated by fans particularly given he has been in lockdown and had plenty of time to focus on things he is getting paid for.
