Johnny Depp's lawyers refute 'wife beater' claims in libel case as Amber did not donate the full £1m

If you thought that the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp drama has ended then it definitely has not. Johnny Depp’s new argument is that Amber Heard had asked for a divorce settlement which she claimed she would give away to charity but never actually did. He says her vow to donate the money gave her credibility and made him lose his defamation case. At least that is his new angle.

Johnny Depp’s lawyers are appealing against the UK defamation case where Depp sued The Sun newspaper for libel for an article published in 2018 which called him a wife beater. However in November the judge sided with The Sun and Amber, who was their witness, by ruling that there was evidence of abuse.

Depp’s lawyer on Thursday 18 March said that her testimony was unfair because she had said she would donate the $7m divorce settlement which in his words provided her with a “considerate boost to her credibility as a person” and “tipped the scales against Mr. Depp from the very beginning.”

Of course such a claim brings with it some dangerous accusations implying that the judge is not able to separate facts from opinions and a fair trial was not given. The lawyer also claims that Amber has only donated $100k and so that is enough grounds to have a re-trial.

The only slight problem with this would be that Amber heard had already admitted to not giving away the full money and her reasons are because Depp keeps suing her which is fair enough.

Her lawyer at the time said;

"Amber has already been responsible for seven figures in donations to charitable causes and intends to continue to contribute and eventually fulfill her pledge."

She adds ...

"However, Amber has been delayed in that goal because Mr. Depp filed a lawsuit against her, and consequently, she has been forced to spend millions of dollars defending Mr. Depp's false accusations against her."

Wow, sounds like both sides are refusing to put an end to things and let go. The lawyers are of course having a field day with all the legal fees that they will most likely charge. Tell us what you think?
