Jennifer Lopez's Rude Response To An Instagram User Who Suggested She'd Gotten Botox

In the world of Hollywood, plastic surgery, botox and lip fillers are the norm and so what if you get some work done. The industry is filled with selling beauty and if celebs want a helping hand then sure do it, just don’t lie about it is the view most people would take. I mean let’s face it, botox is so mainstream now that pretty much anyone and everyone is getting it done.

So when one fan made the comment around J Lo hAaving had some work done, J Lo’s reply was pretty shocking dividing up the fans. Here is what happened.

On Friday, 15 January, Jennifer Lopez shared a video on Instagram that she said captured her first reaction to seeing her skin after using a product from her newly launch skincare line called That Limitless Glow from JLo Beauty. She had used a sheet mask which comes in a set of three. Her response was;

"Honestly, I cannot even see a line on my face," Lopez said in the video, giving a close-up look at her skin. "Leave it on for 20 minutes, and I feel like it took 10 years off my face."

OK, firstly we have to admit if that is Lopez’s natural face without makeup and filters then the mask is definitely worth the $48 price tag. However some users remain unconvinced that she had never had any work done.

One user wrote;

"But can I just mention that brows and forehead doesn't move at all when you talk or try to express... you definitely have Botox. And tons of it. And it's all good. Just saying,"

The comment received more than 1,500 likes however J Lo was definitely not one who had liked this comment. On Saturday she responded to the comment writing;

"LOL thats just my face!!! ….For the 500 millionth time… I have never done Botox or any injectables or surgery!!""Get you some JLO BEAUTY and feel beautiful in your own skin!!

Ok, so far her response is questionable but she is only making her point and of course promoting her brand. However it was the rest of that comment which angered some fans. She wrote;

And here is another JLO Beauty secret: try spending your time being more positive, kind and uplifting of others. Don't spend your time trying to bring others down, that will keep you youthful & beautiful too!!”

Ouch and wow! Really? Was there a need to make it personal by stating that the user was bringing others down? Surely the user only politely highlighted that if any work was done then better to be honest about it. I mean let’s face it no one is flawless and maybe there is something a little reassuring to know that even one of our favourite celebrity needs a helping hand. Surely Jo Lo is the one bringing people down here.

Several people defended the commenter with many highlighting that they didn’t mind that celebs had work done.

One user wrote;

“Sorry but why would the person commenting be a troll? They just made a simple comment?

Other responses have been;

In an interview for Glamour last month, J Lo had again denied ever getting work done. She said;

"I haven't ever had Botox to this day... I'm not that person. I don't have anything against people doing that; it's just not my thing. I'm more about a natural approach to skincare… but I want [my products] to work," she said.

Instead of invasive procedures, Lopez claims her flawless complexion is due to olive oil saying, "It’s a secret I’ve used over the years because it really does work", - as well as SPF application.

Some viewed her comments back then as judgemental. On December 6thone user went as far as carrying out some analysis putting a picture of her in 2008 and 2020 next to each other. She wrote;

Did you guys know that #JLo had forehead lines and frown lines (11s) in her late 20s-40s but then just by using the miracle that is olive oil (AND DEFINITELY NOT BOTOX) she now has a frozen forehead with minimal lines? Amazing, right? 😅 My biggest issue with her quote about Botox (“I’m just not that person”) is that it sounds like a character judgement. And just FYI, on top of injectables, the rich and wealthy have access to all sorts of treatments that most of us couldn’t afford once, let alone regularly as they do.”

She goes on to write; “What she SHOULD have said was something like, “We all do what we can to take care of ourselves. My new skincare line has lots of amazing ingredients like hiluronic acid that will perfectly complement everything else you do to age gracefully.”

Wow, could have put it better ourselves.

In reference to the same comments in December, another user, Dr Naomi pointed out;

"No one cares that you have injectables. Botox is just one way to maintain beautiful skin. Is she saying that she's not the type of person who wants to look after herself with the technology available? This statement just makes her sound insincere."

"My beef is with the lack of ethics of her marketing and the lack of transparency. She's almost saying, 'Buy my product, as that's all it takes to look like me'. She also seems to imply the superiority of someone who is 'natural'. Natural doesn't exist. She is a hardcore beauty achiever, and it's obvious.

While we are definitely not in a position to confirm or deny whether J Lo has had any work done, we would of course prefer honesty like everyone else and will not judge her should she choose to be honest about it. It is simply re-assuring to know that beauty takes time, energy and effort and not all of us are lucky enough to have the money or means for it. Tell us what you think?
