Is a Mean Girls sequel on the cards, what should we expect?

Mean Girls is just one of those movies, for some reason it appeals to the men as well as the women but that could be because of their crush on Lindsay Lohan. Whatever the reason there is talk of a sequel, something that Lindsay Lohan has herself revealed but whether she will be in it or not is not yet known.

Mean Girls hints at a sequel

Speaking on her mum Dina's podcast, The OG MAMA D, Lindsay responded to rumors of a sequel, saying:

"Oh, I mean, I know that they're gonna do something, but I just don't know exactly what yet and it would be an honour to be a part of it, obviously."

She also talked about a recent virtual reunion with the cast of Mean Girls and that she felt like she was still on good terms.

"It was really fun to do the catching up all together [at] the reunion because it felt like - and they didn't air part of this - but it felt like we had all just seen each other the day before."

And when asked if they were still friends she said.

"It still feels like we know each other so well....it's been so continuous over the years that it feels like we're all still good friends, which was really nice, to catch up with everyone.”

Lindsay hinted at a sequel at the start of the year

Lindsay has previously hinted at wanting to do a sequel. In fact she told Daily Mail earlier in the year:

Of course, I would say yes [to a sequel]. To come back with a movie like that would be my dream, to be honest, because I haven't done one in so long. That would be my ultimate."

At the time she also revealed that Rachel McAdams would love to reunite and added that:

"I think if I talked to Amanda [Seyfried] and I talked to Lacey [Chabert] and we kind of all could have a chat together, maybe we should do a Zoom call."

What will the storyline be?

Interesting, we would certainly love to see all the lovely ladies in a Mean Girls sequel, although what will the storyline be? Will they play older versions of themselves and still have the plastics set rules of the land or would they have grown up and come back as adults with their daughters or sons trying to navigate the world of plastics.

This has been a question on everyone’s mind including the cast themselves. In April 2020 express wrote an article where the ladies speculated about the sequel.

Rachel McAdams wants to come back as an older version of herself

Rachel McAdams, who played the head Mean Girl herself, Regina George said: “It would be fun to play Regina George later in her life and see where life took her.” according to Express.

This could be intriguing and talks about a potential Mean Moms, another book by the original author Rosalind Wiseman were making the rounds in the past but nothing was confirmed.

Lindsay Lohan wants to come back as housewives where they are all cheating

In 2014, Lindsay Lohan reportedly pitched an idea to Tina Fey, the original screenwriter and adaptor, for a sequel.

Speaking to Time Out, she said:

“I was with Tina Fey the other day and I said, ‘We should do another Mean Girls, like an older version where they’re all housewives and they’re all cheating.’
“That would be really funny. I’ll harass Tina to write it.”

The rest of the cast was reportedly also keen for another project, and in December 2016, Lohan revealed she was desperately trying to get a sequel made.

What do you think?

If there was a sequel then we are just as excited as everyone else and can’t wait to find out what the story will be. What do you think it should be about?
