If you haven’t seen Birdgerton on Netflix then you are definitely missing out and our favourite drama is heating up as season 2 is thought to be coming around the corner. Netflix has announced that actress Simone Ashley will be the new leading lady which is due to return to production in Spring.
The period drama which Mila Kunis’s husband confused for porn definitely has some pretty out there scenes and is based on Julia Quinn’s best selling series of novels by Chris Van Dusen and produced by the “Scandal” queen Shonda Rhimes.
Set in the world of high style Regency London in the 1880s, the first season is pretty much described by many as a combination of Gossip Girl and Jane Austen and centers around socialite Daphne Bridgerton played by Pheone Dynevor and her love affair with Duke of Hastings played by handsome Rege-Jean Page.
For those that loved Season 1, Season 2 is thought be just as exceptional. Based on Quinn’s second entry book series “The Viscount Who Loved me.” This time the new episode is all about her eldest Bridgerton brother Anthony. Simone Ashley will play the role of Anthony’s love interest; Kate Sharma.
She is a fresh Londoner from India, described as an intelligent, “headstrong young woman who suffers no fools” — Anthony included, according to an announcement on Shondaland TV’s Twitter. Kate, is known as Kate Sheffield in Quinn’s second novel — and her family are of Indian descent in a continuation of the reimagined, multiracial world of old-school high society created in Season 1, which included several major black characters, including the Duke (Page), Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) and Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) not featured in the original book series.
What is Bridgerton Season 2 going to be about?
As for the story line, most would remember Anthony as a womaniser in season 1, so season 2 is about him finding a wife so that he can get married and settles down in case he dies young so needs an heir, but of course this is a marriage of convenience and has nothing to do with love. So he looks for someone who will tick the boxes of being a good wife and comes across Edwina Sheffied, except there is one issue. Her sister, Kate who does not like Anthony at all and has vowed to do everything she can to stop her sister from marrying him.
This wouldn’t be a 19th century love story of the Viscount didn’t then go out of his way to win Kate’s approval only to win her over and turn her from an enemy into a friend. In doing so, he finds he has developed feelings for her and turns out she feels the same. After the two are caught kissing they are forced to marry and end up having four children together.
Simone Ashley’s other roles have included Olivia Hanan in Netflix’s “Sex Education” and UK ITV’s drama “The Sister”. She is one of the several fresh faces cast in the Netflix series Bridgerton.
“We have a bunch of new characters we are going to be introducing,” Van Dusen, creator and showrunner, revealed during an interview on “Today with Hoda & Jenna” in January.
“Anthony is going to have a love interest next season, and I think it’s going to be as sweeping and moving and as beautiful as viewers of the first season have come to expect from the show.”
We certainly enjoyed the first season and are definitely looking forward to the next
